@8.00pm

Born in London with English & Spanish roots, John was raised on the blues before immersing himself in salsa, flamenco & Afro-Cuban traditions — influences that continue to shape his wonderfully rich, layered & deeply expressive sound.

Over the years, he has performed at some of the world’s most celebrated festivals & venues, including Montreal, North Sea & San Sebastián Jazz Festivals, Ronnie Scott’s, the Royal Albert Hall & London’s 606 Club, building a reputation for music that is vibrant, soulful & utterly transportive.

His acclaimed albums — Ulia River of Time, Times & Tides, and most recently Room for Dancing — beautifully reflect a lifetime of musical exploration, travel, and rhythmic passion. There is warmth and lyricism in everything John plays, but always, too, that irresistible pulse of Latin groove running through the music.

John has collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists, from Airto Moreira and Norma Winstone to Björk and Tony Kofi, while also helping to shape influential projects including Grupo X and ISQ. Alongside his performing career, he is also a deeply respected educator whose books on Latin piano are used by musicians around the world.
